IbadatRamadan

The Month of Qur’an is Commencing

Allah Taala declares (meaning): The month of Ramadan is the one in which the Qur‘an was revealed as guidance for mankind and as clear signs that show the right way and distinguish between right and wrong. So those of you who witness the month must fast in it. But the one who is sick, or is on a journey (should fast) as much from other days (as he missed). Allah intends (to provide) ease for you and does not intend (to create) hardship for you. All this is so that you may complete the number (of fasts as prescribed) and proclaim the Takbir of Allah for having guided you, and (so) that you may be grateful. (2:185).

Ramadan reminds us of building our life in the light of the Holy Qur’an. The Qur’an is NOT a book, it is NOT human-written, it is NOT science, geography, math or philosophy.  It is the divine revelation. It consists of the commandments sent down to mankind by his Creator and Sustainer, by the Lord of the Universe. It should be read with complete submission and purity. There is no possibility of any mistake or error in it. It is not a book written by man, rather the words of man’s Creator!

The Creator of man and every bit of piece of this universe has exposed His Might and Wisdom to us in many ways. The Holy Qur’an, His Words, are no doubt the most stunning and miraculous.

We relate the story of Gary Miller who was a mathematician and a theologian. He was active in Christian missionary work at a particular point in his life but he soon began to discover many inconsistencies in the Bible. In 1978, he happened to read the Qur’an expecting that it, too, would contain a mixture of truth and falsehood.

One day, he decided to read the Qur’an to try to find any mistakes that he might take advantage of while inviting Muslims to convert to Christianity. He expected the Qur’an to be an old book written 14 centuries ago, a book that talks about the desert and so on. He was amazed by what he found.

He discovered that this Book had what no other book in the world has. He expected to find some stories about the hard time that the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) had, like the death of his wife Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) or the death of his sons and daughters. However, he did not find anything like that. And what made him even more confused is that he found a full “Sura” (chapter) in the Qur’an named “Mary” that contains a lot of respect to Mary (peace be upon her) which is not the case even in the books written by Christians nor in their Bibles. He did not find a Sura named after “Fatimah”(the prophet’s daughter) nor “Aishah” (the Prophet’s wife), may Allah (God) be pleased with both of them. He also found that the name of Jesus (Peace Be Upon Him) was mentioned in the Qur’an 25 times while the name of “Muhammad” (Peace Be Upon Him) was mentioned only 4 times, so he became more confused. He started reading the Qur’an more thoroughly hoping to find a mistake but he was shocked when he read a great verse which is verse number 82 in Surat Al-Nisa’a (Women) that says:

“Do they not consider the Qur’an (with care)? Had it been from other than Allah, they would surely have found therein much discrepancy”.

Dr Miller says about this verse: “One of the well-known scientific principles is the principle of finding mistakes or looking for mistakes in a theory until it’s proved to be right (Falsification Test). What’s amazing is that the Holy Qur’an asks Muslims and non-muslims to try to find mistakes in this book and it tells them that they will never find any”. He also says about this verse: “No writer in the world has the courage to write a book and say that it’s empty of mistakes, but the Qur’an, on the contrary, tells you that it has no mistakes and asks you to try to find one and you won’t find any.”

Dr Gary Miller Converted to Islam! He is a Muslim. His name is Abdul-Ahad Omar. By the Grace of Allah Taala, many people are coming into the fold of Islam today and many will Inshaallah be coming tomorrow.

What are we doing as a born Muslim (i.e. being born in a Muslim family)? It is indeed to be questioned and thought deeply. We are now at the doorsteps of Holy Ramadan. The Holy Qur’an had been revealed in this Holy Month. Every Muslim should prepare to recite the Holy Qur’an in abundance at this time; he should start contemplating on the Words of his Creator. Ramadan should be adorned by the recitation and thoughts of the Holy Qur’an. Both of these (the Fast and the Qur’an) would intercede for us on the Day of Judgement. How fortunate the person be who would be regarded so high at the Court of Allah Taala at that moment!

Allah Taala has cited the verse in the Qur’an with facts, incidents and messages in a stylish way. The Almighty has mentioned history, science, geography etc. NOT to depict and prove the worth of worldly knowledge, these have been mentioned as a necessity, the purpose and aim of mentioning all these are much higher! Some people among us only look for scientific proofs or amazing facts in the Qur’an, but they pay less or almost no heed to its Message. A man should know the purpose of his life, man should know Who created him and why a man should know his aim and responsibility of life. The Architect of man (and the whole universe) is addressing him by saying (meaning):  Surely, in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are signs for the people of wisdom, who remember Allah standing and sitting, and (lying) on their sides, and ponder on the creation of the heavens and the earth (and say). Our Lord, You have not created all this in vain. We proclaim Your purity. So, save us from the punishment of Fire. (3: 190-191)

Every Ramadan is commencing and passing away; one (month of Ramadan) will be such that would be the final of our life! We should keep some remarks of reformation and development in our life; make a pledge to build a life of obedience and piety. At least a good intention could become an excuse of salvation on the Court in the afterlife!

An appeal to the Muslims is: with care and sincerity, read and recite the Holy Qu’ran and read its commentary too if possible, contemplate seriously on the Message of Allah Taala. Do Dua that He provides us with the Tawfeeq to care and value the Heights of His Divine Revelation by following His commandments therein!
